May 30, 2022 Koppers Campaign Newsletter
Kristen Koppers for Regional Superintendent of Schools
Once again, I had the pleasure to visit with Darren Bailey, candidate for Illinois Governor and his wife, Cindy, last week. The Bailey’s stopped at The Launching Pad Drive-in in Wilmington off of the famous Route 66. If you do not know anything about The Launching Pad Drive-in, you are missing one of the historical gems with the 28 foot Gemini Giant standing out front.
This was not the first time I met the Bailey’s since petitions began back in January. But I have to say that Darren has not changed his views or promises from the first time I saw him to the last. The only other Gubernatorial candidate I was able to personally speak with was Gary Rabine, who graciously attended one of my events a week or so ago in Morris.
Bailey did comment on the social media rumors that were going around about him through the Irvin campaign. After what I researched and know about Richard Irvin, I do not consider him to be a credible source. Even the fact that he has turned down numerous requests for a political debate speaks about his character. I am glad that people are starting to see the truth before the primary election.
But social media has become a hot spot for information as well as misinformation. Unfortunately, this is where many go to for their (mis)information. The sad part is that there are people who create fake profiles just to falsify information in order to hide their identity. The fact remains that those who have to hide behind a computer screen are often cowards in real life as well. Sometimes I humor them, and other times I just ignore them. It’s interesting to see how far they will go to create lies and fake rumors about me. But regardless, my voters know who I am and do not fall for their attempts to discredit me.
But today, we do not celebrate Memorial Day; but rather we are to remember and honor the soldiers that died during battle. They gave their lives to fight for our freedom. Their families lost their sons, daughters, husbands, and / or wives in order to fight to keep our rights. Even though Memorial Day is about remembering those who gave their lives, we can still remember those who fought and are no longer with us. My dad fought two battles: a soldier in the Vietnam War and cancer. He now lies at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL alongside his comrades.
Remember this is not a three-day weekend to celebrate, but an extended weekend to honor the fallen.
