April 15, 2022 Koppers Campaign Newsletter
Kristen Koppers for Regional Superintendent of Schools
Today is Good Friday as many Catholics and Christians commemorate Jesus Christ’s crucifixion as he resurrected from the dead three days later. If the belief in resurrection indicates that anything can happen in three days, imagine what we can do in in more than three days.
It was a pleasure to host an event at Cavallone’s Pizzeria and Basement Bar in Minooka last night. There were many concerned citizens and stakeholders who came to listen to the several guest candidates speak: David Shestokas - Attorney General, Jeff Regnier - Congress 1st District, a representative from the campaign of James Marter - Congress 14th District, Michael Rebresh - 16th District, Stacey Keagle - Illinois Representative 49th District, Jed Davis - Illinois Representative 75th District, and Scott Greene - Illinois House 86th District.
These last couple of weeks have really opened my eyes to how not only politics have changed our way of living, but has divided us as a community. As a 20-year veteran of teaching, I really thought I saw it all. But listening to parents and educators in other schools, I realized there are similarities within the school system: indoctrination of the children and lack of administration concern.
While social media is not an accurate account of factual information, it does serve a purpose of spreading information, accurate or not. As an educator and a parent, it’s concerning to me that many have given up hope on the educational system. We cannot blame the teachers that are leaving because of the immoral and unethical guidelines. We cannot blame the parents for wanting to pull their child(ren) out of public education by homeschooling or transferring to a private school system. And we cannot blame the parents for wanting to keep their child(ren) in the public school system.
We cannot give up! I know that it’s disheartening how the educational system is being used. They forgot about the children. They forgot about the skills needed to learn to be successful. They forgot what it feels like to want to learn in school. The public school system CAN be saved. We already know that the incumbents do not have the best interest of the people and children at this time.
It seems that the politicians are playing a game of chess not only with ridiculous bills that are being passed through the House and Senate but with with education of our children. The strategy of “the game” is knowing when to make a move. But the general idea of the game is that the pawns (who are represented by the children) are the most common piece on the board and only able to, generally, move forward one step.
Now depending on which move the opponent makes, the pawn can be knocked out. But the two most important pieces on the game board are the king and the queen. The king can only move one space in either direction on the board whereas the queen is able to move the same as the king but move multiple squares in a single move. Yet, there are times that the queen will sacrifice herself in order to protect the king. Because when the king is knocked down, the game of chess is over.
BUT since the rules have changed as we head to the June primary, the queen is now the most important piece on the chessboard. The queen will do anything to protect the “pawns” and will even sacrifice herself at times.
It’s time to stand up to those who are bullying us against political trickery and assassination of one’s character and belief. No one likes a bully. I will give you the representation that you deserve. I will represent the needs of ALL parents and not the politicians. But I cannot do it without you. You are the backbone to my campaign. You are the inspiration that I continue to fight for all children (not just in Grundy and Kendall County). You are the ones who stood up against those who try to take us down.
